Key findings of the National Economic Survey 2025-26 have been revealed.
According to the survey document, the population of donkeys, horses, mules and other livestock increased during the current fiscal year, while the livestock sector recorded a growth rate of 3.8% in FY2025-26.
The donkey population reached 6.16 million, reflecting an annual increase of 1.9%. The number of mules rose by 1.8% to 221,000, while the horse population increased by 0.8% to 386,000.
During the current fiscal year, the buffalo population exceeded 49.1 million, marking an annual increase of 3%. The number of cattle reached 61.96 million, recording growth of 3.8%.

The goat population rose to 91.8 million, an increase of 2.7% compared to the previous year. Sheep numbers increased by 1.2% to more than 33.5 million, while the camel population grew by 1.4%, reaching 1.193 million.
The fisheries sector also posted growth of 1.7% during the current fiscal year, according to the survey.
