Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has termed the team’s 1,000th One-Day International a special moment ahead of the opening match of the ODI series against Australia at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Friday.
Shaheen said Australia remained one of the strongest teams in world cricket and contests between the two sides had always been hard fought.
He said the players had worked tirelessly during the training camp and the entire squad was determined to secure victory in the series.
The Pakistan captain added that victories in the last two ODI series against Australia had lifted the team’s confidence ahead of the forthcoming matches.
Pakistan will face Australia in their 1,000th ODI international, becoming only the third side in cricket history to reach the milestone after Australia and India.
The first ODI will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the second and third matches will take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. All matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30pm Pakistan time.
Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead Pakistan, while Josh Inglis will captain Australia.
Pakistan and Australia have played 111 ODI internationals so far. Pakistan won the previous two ODI series against Australia by a 2-1 margin.
Shaheen said the support of cricket fans in Rawalpindi and Lahore had always encouraged the players and created a positive atmosphere for the team.
Meanwhile, the trophy for the Pakistan-Australia ODI series was unveiled, with both captains taking part in an official photo session. The commentary panel for the series was also announced.
