The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all its field formations to remain open over the weekend in an effort to meet its tax collection targets after facing a revenue shortfall of Rs683 billion.
According to an official notification, all relevant FBR offices will remain open on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31. The decision comes as the tax authority intensifies efforts to improve revenue collection before the close of the fiscal period.
The FBR has instructed all Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayer Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to remain open.
Officials said all field offices will function according to their normal working hours on both days.
The move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted tax-related services and facilitating taxpayers who need assistance with filing, payments or other tax matters.
Revenue shortfall prompts action
The decision follows a reported tax revenue shortfall of Rs683 billion against the FBR’s collection targets. Keeping offices open over the weekend is part of broader efforts to maximize tax collection and improve compliance before the end of the financial year.
Tax authorities are expected to remain fully engaged in processing payments and addressing taxpayer concerns during the extended operational period.
FBR says move will benefit taxpayers
The FBR stated that the primary objective of keeping offices open is to provide convenience to taxpayers. By extending access to tax offices beyond regular weekdays, the authority aims to help individuals and businesses complete pending tax matters without disruption.
The initiative is also expected to support the FBR’s ongoing efforts to narrow the revenue gap and strengthen overall tax collection performance.
