The US military has denied Iranian state media claims that an American aircraft was shot down near Bushehr, saying no US aircraft were destroyed and all American air assets remain accounted for.
US Central Command said early Friday that no American aircraft had been shot down near Bushehr, despite a claim broadcast by Iranian state television.
“No U.S. aircraft were shot down. All U.S. air assets are accounted for,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

Iran reported aircraft destroyed over Jam
Iranian state TV reported early Friday that a US aircraft had been destroyed in Jam governorate, located in Bushehr province along Iran’s Persian Gulf coast.
The report cited Jam Governor Masoud Tangestani, who said Iranian armed forces had shot down an aircraft over the skies of Jam. He said the situation in the city was calm at the time of his statement.
Explosions heard in Bushehr province
Iranian state media reported Thursday that explosions heard in Bushehr province were caused by air defense systems engaging what officials described as a hostile aircraft.
State television said a loud explosion was heard in the city of Jam. Local officials said the blast came after Iranian forces intercepted an unidentified aerial vehicle over the city.
Aircraft reportedly fell into Persian Gulf
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, citing regional sources, reported that air defense systems struck an aircraft over the Persian Gulf.
According to the report, the aircraft then fell into the sea. Iranian authorities did not immediately provide further details about the type or origin of the aircraft.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported on Thursday night that explosions were also heard near the Strait of Hormuz and Bandar Abbas. Tasnim later said the sounds came from exchanged fire issued as a warning to ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime routes, making any military activity in the area closely watched.
The semi-official Fars News Agency also reported Thursday that Iranian armed forces had carried out a missile launch operation from the southern region of the country. The missiles were reportedly fired toward specified targets.
However, Fars said the destination of the missiles was not yet clear.
Conflicting accounts raise uncertainty
The incident added to uncertainty amid heightened regional tensions and competing claims from US and Iranian sources.
While Iranian state media reported that an aircraft had been shot down, the US military firmly denied that any American aircraft was involved.
