Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has expressed confidence ahead of the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, saying the side has gained belief, clarity and better game awareness.
Writing in her column for the International Cricket Council, Fatima Sana said the players understood the responsibility of representing Pakistan at a major tournament and had prepared with strong focus and intensity.
She said the team had improved in confidence and planning, adding that experiences from previous tournaments had helped the squad mature.
“World Cups bring pressure, emotion and memories together. Those are the moments every cricketer dreams of,” she wrote.
Fatima Sana has termed it as an honour to spearhead Pakistan for a second successive Women’s T20 World Cup and said she looked forward to taking the field alongside her teammates.
The Pakistan captain said the squad carried a balanced mix of youth and experience, naming Muneeba Ali, Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu among the experienced players in the side.
It is pertinent to note that Pakistan recently completed 3-0 victories over Zimbabwe in both ODI and T20I series at home and will next feature in a tri-series against West Indies and Ireland before the World Cup.
The 12-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will begin in England, with Pakistan placed in Group A alongside India, Australia, Bangladesh, Netherlands and South Africa.
Pakistan will open their campaign against India on June 14.
