Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has said the national side failed to produce the required performances during the captaincy tenure of former skipper Mohammad Rizwan.
Speaking at a press conference, Hesson said it was felt after the West Indies series that Rizwan should no longer continue as captain. He maintained the players’ confidence had improved over the past year and added that the team management was working towards strengthening the squad ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Hesson said young cricketers were given opportunities during the Bangladesh series in order to assess new combinations and options before the tournament.
He said 10 One-day Internationals before the 2027 Cricket World Cup would not be enough preparation for the side.
The head coach added that the team still needed improvement in scoring runs during the powerplay and taking wickets with the new ball.
