Another blow has fallen on inflation-hit citizens as the government increased the petroleum levy on diesel instead of providing relief in fuel prices.
According to details which surfaced, the government withdrew potential relief for the public in petroleum product prices. Documents showed that rather than reducing the levy on diesel, the government increased it.
A reduction of Rs12.80 per litre in diesel prices had been worked out, but the levy on diesel was raised from Rs52 per litre to Rs58 per litre.
Meanwhile, the levy on petrol remained unchanged at Rs102.17 per litre. The levy on kerosene oil stood at Rs20.36 per litre, while the carbon support levy on petrol and diesel remained unchanged at Rs2.50 per litre.
