Two policemen were martyred in separate firing incidents targeting polio teams in Tehsil Salarzai of Bajaur on Monday, officials said.
The martyred policemen were identified as Constable Syed Aziz and Constable Qadir, who were performing security duties with anti-polio teams.
The firing took place on polio teams in two separate incidents in Tehsil Salarzai. Two police officials assigned to the security of the polio teams were martyred in the attacks in a single day.
Following the attacks, security was tightened in the affected areas. DSP Jamal Shah said a search operation had been launched to find the accused involved in the firing incidents.
Mohsin Naqvi condemns attacks
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the firing on anti-polio teams in the Dog Qila and Tabai areas of Bajaur. He expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of Constables Syed Aziz and Qadir and paid tribute to the officials for sacrificing their lives in the line of duty.
Naqvi also extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the martyred constables. He said the constables He described the attack on teams protecting the future of children as a heinous act by savage elements.
KP chief minister seeks report
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also took notice of the firing on anti-polio teams in Bajaur and strongly condemned the incident. He sought a detailed report from the inspector general of police on the attacks.
The chief minister said targeting officials performing national duty was a cowardly act. He said terrorists would never succeed in their nefarious intentions, adding that the martyrdom of security personnel assigned to polio teams was extremely saddening.
The chief minister said the provincial government equally shares the grief of the martyrs’ families and will provide all possible support.
