Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim struck a composed 137 as Bangladesh national cricket team set Pakistan national cricket team a daunting 437-run target in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Bangladesh were dismissed for 390 in their second innings after resuming in a commanding position on day three. Mushfiqur held the innings together with a patient knock from 233 balls, striking 12 fours and one six.
Litton Das supported the effort with 69, while opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy made 52. The pair extended Bangladesh’s advantage steadily after Pakistan’s seamers had reduced the hosts to 115 for four.
Pakistan bowlers Khurram Shahzad and Sajid Khan claimed four and three wickets respectively, but Bangladesh continued to add runs through disciplined partnerships.
Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 232 in reply to Bangladesh’s first-innings 278. Babar Azam top-scored with 68, while Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam shared six wickets between them.
At the close of the innings, Bangladesh led by 436 runs, placing Pakistan under severe pressure in their pursuit of a series-levelling result.
Pakistan will resume day four on 0 without loss after two overs, with youngsters Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal at the crease after bad light halted play on the third day.
