Punjab authorities have successfully completed the auction process for 108 cattle markets across the province ahead of Eidul Azha, officials said on Friday.
According to the official statement, a total of 108 out of 114 cattle markets were auctioned for Rs13.28 billion. The remaining six markets will be re-auctioned after authorities received what they described as “non-serious bids” during the first round.
The government has also introduced a unified fee structure for livestock traders and farmers across the province. Under the new policy, the fee for large animals has been fixed at Rs1,500, while the fee for small animals has been set at Rs300.
Officials further announced that parking fees at cattle markets have been abolished to provide relief to farmers and buyers.
The statement added that a 16 per cent PRA tax has been included in the auction process.
Authorities said the policy shift was formally approved by the board this year, with the primary focus on providing direct relief to farmers and preventing market manipulation by contractors through unrealistic high bids and excessive profit margins.
Officials maintained that the new system aims to ensure transparency and improve facilities for livestock traders and visitors during the Eid season.
