Derbyshire have signed Pakistan fast bowler Akif Javed for the Vitality Blast after Sufiyan Muqeem was ruled out of the first half of the competition owing to national duty.
According to details that surfaced on Thursday, Muqeem will not be available to join Derbyshire during the opening phase of the tournament because of his commitments with the national side.
The county club included Akif Javed in the squad as a replacement for Muqeem. The 25-year-old left-arm fast bowler will represent Derbyshire in the T20 Blast. Akif has played four international matches for Pakistan and claimed more than 100 wickets in T20 cricket.
He has previously worked under former Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Abu Dhabi T10 League.
Speaking after the signing, Akif Javed said he was excited to play in the Blast for the first time.
