The result gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
Bangladesh registered their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan on home soil at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
This win also extended their dominance over Pakistan to three consecutive Test victories, following their 2-0 whitewash in Rawalpindi in 2024. The hosts successfully defended a target of 268 runs.
Pakistan’s chase falls apart
Chasing 268, Pakistan were bowled out for 163 in 52.5 overs despite showing early resistance.
The visitors lost Imam-ul-Haq early, dismissed for just 2 runs by Taskin Ahmed in the opening over. Azan Awais (15) and Abdullah Fazal (66) built a brief recovery with a 50-run stand, but momentum quickly shifted back to Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s innings collapsed under sustained pressure from Bangladesh’s bowling attack.
Shan Masood fell cheaply, while Taijul Islam removed Abdullah Fazal LBW after his fighting 66. Salman Ali Agha (26), Saud Shakeel (15), Mohammad Rizwan (15), Hasan Ali, Noman Ali, and Shaheen Afridi all fell as wickets kept tumbling.
Nahid Rana’s match-winning spell
The highlight of the match was Nahid Rana’s exceptional bowling performance.
He delivered a stunning spell of 5 wickets for just 40 runs in 9.5 overs, dismantling Pakistan’s middle and lower order. His key dismissals included Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Noman Ali, and Shaheen Afridi.
Bangladesh’s bowling unit worked in perfect coordination alongside Rana.
Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed picked up two wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz added one wicket to strengthen the pressure on Pakistan throughout the innings.
Bangladesh set sp victory earlier
Bangladesh had earlier set the tone with a strong batting performance, scoring 413 in their first innings.
Key contributions came from Mominul Haque (91), Najmul Hossain Shanto (101), and Mushfiqur Rahim (71), helping the hosts build a solid foundation.
Pakistan responded with 386, led by Azan Awais’ century (103) and support from Abdullah Fazal, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Rizwan, but still fell short by 27 runs in the first innings.
In their second innings, Bangladesh were guided by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s composed 87 and Mominul Haque’s 56.
A crucial 105-run partnership helped them reach 240-9 declared, setting Pakistan a challenging target of 268.
