The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has issued an astronomical forecast for the expected sighting of the Zilhajj 1447 AH moon, indicating that Eid-ul-Azha is likely to fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
According to the forecast, the first day of Zilhajj is likely to be observed on Monday, May 18.
A SUPARCO spokesperson said the new moon is expected to be born at around 1:11am on May 17, 2026.
By the evening of the same day, the moon’s age is expected to be around 18 hours and 30 minutes. In another estimate, the moon’s age was stated to be about 18 hours and 3 minutes by evening.
According to SUPARCO, there will be a gap of nearly 60 minutes between sunset and moonset in coastal areas. Due to this, the chances of sighting the Zilhajj moon will be bright if the weather remains clear and visibility is good.
Zilhajj and Eid dates
If moon-sighting conditions remain favorable, the first of Zilhajj 1447 AH is likely to fall on Monday, May 18. The tenth of Zilhajj, which marks Eid-ul-Azha, is likely to fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
SUPARCO clarified that the forecast is based on astronomical calculations. The final announcement regarding the sighting of the Zilhajj moon will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing reliable testimonies received from across the country.
