Pakistan Test cricketer and T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has expressed hope that the Green Shirts will contain Bangladesh as early as possible on the fifth and final day of the Mirpur Test.
Speaking after the close of play on the fourth day, Agha said it was too early to say which side held the advantage in the match. “We will try to dismiss Bangladesh as soon as possible,” he said.

“There is no doubt that we will go for victory. Pakistan would pursue the target if Bangladesh set a total around 270 with nearly 60 overs remaining in the match," he said.
Earlier on Monday, Bangladesh have strengthened their position against Pakistan on the fourth day of the Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, extending their lead to 179 runs with seven wickets in hand after play was interrupted by rain and bad light.
Mominul Haque scored 56, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 58 as the pair added 105 runs for the third wicket in Bangladesh’s second innings.
The hosts reached 152 for three in 50.3 overs at stumps after resuming with a narrow lead following Pakistan’s first-innings total of 386.
Pakistan’s seamers struck early after Mohammad Abbas trapped Mahmudul Hasan Joy lbw for five, while Hasan Ali dismissed Shadman Islam for 10.
Mominul and Shanto then steadied the innings with a composed partnership, frustrating Pakistan’s bowlers on a slow pitch under overcast conditions.
Shaheen Shah Afridi provided Pakistan with the only breakthrough of the final session when he had Mominul caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan.
Heavy rain washed out the entire afternoon session, while fading light forced an early end to play later in the evening.
Earlier, Azan Awais scored 103 in Pakistan’s first innings, while Abdullah Fazal made 60 and Rizwan added 59.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed five wickets for 102 runs, while Taijul Islam took two wickets.
At the close, Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten on 16 alongside Shanto, with Bangladesh leading by 179 runs heading into the fifth day.
