Four people were killed and five others, including PML-N MPA Col (retd) Ayub Khan Gadhi, were injured after armed men opened fire at the lawmaker’s camp in Toba Tek Singh.
The attack took place in Chak 184 GB in the Rajana area, within the limits of Rajana police station.
According to police, unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire at the camp of PML-N Member of Provincial Assembly Col (retd) Ayub Khan Gadhi.
Three PML-N workers initially died on the spot, while several others were critically injured. Police later confirmed that another injured person had died, raising the death toll to four.
Ayub Gadhi shifted to Lahore
Five people, including MPA Gadhi, were seriously injured in the firing. The injured were immediately shifted to DHQ Hospital Toba Tek Singh, where treatment and operations were carried out.
After initial treatment, Gadhi was referred to Lahore in critical condition for further medical care. The Faisalabad RPO reached DHQ Hospital Toba Tek Singh after the attack.
He visited the injured MPA and reviewed the situation at the hospital. After the incident, a large number of PML-N workers also gathered at DHQ Hospital.
Police collect evidence
Senior police officers and forensic teams reached the crime scene after the firing. Police said evidence has been collected from the site.
Teams have also been formed to arrest the accused involved in the attack.
Punjab IG Abdul Karim took notice of the firing incident and sought a report from the RPO. He also ordered the Toba Tek Singh DPO to immediately arrest the suspects involved in the attack.
Police said raids and further investigation are underway.
Ayub Gadhi’s political background
Col (retd) Ayub Khan Gadhi is a PML-N member of the Punjab Assembly. He has also served as Punjab’s provincial minister for counter-terrorism.
PM Shehbaz demands swift investigation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the firing incident and directed authorities to complete the investigation promptly and identify those responsible.
“The perpetrators of the attack must be brought to justice,” the prime minister said.
Shehbaz described Gadhi as one of the hardworking workers of the PML-N, adding that the attack on him while he was listening to public issues at his dera was deeply concerning.
The premier also prayed for the forgiveness of those who lost their lives in the incident and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Punjab law minister condemns attack
Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan took notice of the attack on PML-N MPA Gadhi. He sought an immediate report from RPO Faisalabad and directed that those involved in the incident be brought to justice at all costs.
The provincial minister expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased.
Rana Iqbal prayed for the speedy recovery of injured Gadhi. He said the Punjab government would not compromise on maintaining law and order. He added that protection of citizens’ lives and property is the government’s top priority.
