Mother’s Day is being observed in Pakistan and across the world, with flowers, messages and ceremonies honouring mothers for their love and sacrifice.
While families marked the occasion with celebrations, many elderly mothers living in old-age homes waited for a glimpse of their children after spending their lives caring for their families and securing a better future for them.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said mothers were the foundation of the family and the pillar of society. She said Mother’s Day was an occasion to recognise the extraordinary love and sacrifices of mothers and added that she missed her late mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, every day.
The Punjab chief minister said she could never forget the affection and prayers of her mother and added that serving one’s mother brought success in this world and the hereafter. She also prayed for the health and wellbeing of all mothers.
Meanwhile, Punjab senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb paid tribute to mothers who sacrificed their sons for the defence of the country, saying such women were the true guardians of the nation.
She said there was no relationship comparable to that of a mother and added that mothers, sisters and daughters had played a vital role in every movement throughout history. She also paid tribute to the mothers of Palestine and occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The Punjab senior minister said the nation would remain indebted to the mothers of martyrs for their sacrifices and courage.
Moreover, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said a mother was not merely a relation but a sacred symbol of love, sacrifice, patience and prayer. In his Mother’s Day message, he paid tribute to mothers across the world, particularly in Pakistan and Balochistan, and said mothers had raised generations through their guidance, prayers and sacrifices. He added that the mothers of martyrs were the pride of the nation.
Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi praised the performance of the Pakistan women’s cricket team on Mother’s Day after their victory over Zimbabwe Women.
He said the team had set several records and raised the nation’s pride, adding that the historic victory was dedicated to all mothers of Pakistan.
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said a mother was the foundation of the family, the pillar of society and the first institution of character-building.
He said a mother’s prayers, obedience and service guaranteed success in both worlds and described mothers as a source of strength and comfort for their children.
Nehal Hashmi said a mother’s love, prayers and sacrifices were life’s greatest wealth.
He said respect and service towards mothers reflected the country’s religious and social values and paid tribute to mothers who gave their sons in sacrifice for the nation.
Sarah Ahmad said mothers were the first institution for children and the foundation of a secure future.
She said the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau was providing care, protection and education to orphaned and vulnerable children with the compassion of a mother. She added that the Punjab Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2026 was an important step towards safeguarding children, particularly young girls.
