The Higher Education Commission has decided to introduce double and joint degree programs in universities. The commission has formally approved the launch of both systems.
Under the new double degree system, students will be able to take admission in two different university programs at the same time. It will not be necessary for both programs to be offered by the same department.
Earlier, students were allowed to enroll in only one degree program at a time.
The HEC has also decided to introduce a joint degree program. Under this system, students will be able to complete half of their education in one university and the remaining half in another university.
MoU, HEC approval required
For a joint degree, both universities must have a memorandum of understanding. The joint degree program will also require approval from HEC.
The HEC said joint degree programs will be possible both within Pakistan and with universities outside the country. The move is expected to give students more academic flexibility and expand higher education opportunities.
