The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heat alert for Punjab, warning that May and June are likely to be the hottest months of the year across the province.
According to the PDMA, south Punjab will be the most affected region, where temperatures may rise to as high as 52 degrees Celsius. Average temperatures across the province are expected to remain between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius during the two months.
Authorities said the rising heat could increase risks for citizens, especially in areas already experiencing above-normal temperatures.
The PDMA said temperatures in south Punjab today are already 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal.
The PDMA said upper areas of Punjab are likely to be affected by a western wave from April 27 to 29. Another spell of western weather activity is expected from May 3 to 5.

People in heat-prone districts, especially in South Punjab, are urged to take precautionary measures during the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, a nationwide heatwave alert has been issued as temperatures across Pakistan are expected to rise 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal, according to the Meteorological Department.
Authorities have warned that southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan will be the most affected regions, while coastal areas, including Karachi, are also likely to experience a rise in temperature. Temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The intensity of the heat is likely to continue until the first week of May.
