The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused to provide the Senate with details of salaries and benefits given to the selection board and PCB officials, calling the information sensitive and confidential.
The list of officials and individuals who accompanied the national team for the T20 World Cup has also been declared confidential, though the PCB has offered to share the required information in an in-camera briefing.
The matter came up in response to a question by Senator Hidayatullah regarding salaries and benefits of the PCB selection board and officials. The Cabinet Division informed the Senate that the Board had reviewed the requested information in detail.
According to the response, the PCB decided not to publicly share the details because salaries, benefits and personal information of players and officials are sensitive matters.
T20 World Cup entourage list
The PCB has also declared confidential the list of those who accompanied the Pakistan team during the T20 World Cup. The board said the confidentiality of players, officials and employees is mandatory.
It added that such information must be protected under the relevant rules, policies and prevailing procedures.
According to the Cabinet Division’s response, the requested information is linked to the safety and security of PCB personnel. The response said unnecessary publicity of salaries, benefits and personal details could attract unwanted attention.
The PCB maintained that protecting the personal information of players, officials and employees remains its responsibility.
In-camera briefing offered
While refusing to provide the information publicly, the PCB offered to brief the Senate in-camera. The Cabinet Division said the required information could be shared with the Upper House if the Senate wants an in-camera briefing.
The offer suggests that the PCB is willing to provide details privately while keeping them away from public disclosure.
