Earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing residents in affected areas to rush out of their homes in fear.
According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.7 and originated at a depth of 170 kilometers. Tremors were felt in Peshawar, Swat, Shangla, Abbottabad, Swabi, Malakand and Batkhela.
Residents in several areas said the tremors were strong enough to be clearly felt inside homes and buildings.
In Malakand, earthquake tremors were felt in Batkhela city. Swabi city and its surrounding areas also experienced shocks, according to local reports.
Tremors were also reported in Abbottabad and nearby areas. The earthquake was also felt in Swat and its surrounding areas.
Shangla and nearby localities also experienced tremors. In Shangla, people came out of their homes and kept reciting the Holy Quran after the shocks were felt.
Reports also said tremors were felt in Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and Upper Dir.
Epicenter near Afghan-Tajik border
According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake’s intensity was recorded at 5.7 on the Richter scale. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 170 kilometers.
The epicenter was located in the Afghan-Tajik border region.
The tremors created panic in several affected areas, especially in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where residents rushed outdoors for safety.
