Nine youths from the same family got married in one collective wedding ceremony in Shujabad, a suburban area of Multan district in Punjab.
The grooms refused to accept dowry and held the event under one roof, turning the occasion into a widely praised example of simple and affordable marriages.
The collective wedding a couple of days ago featured nine grooms from the same family: Muhammad Kashif, Muhammad Asim, Muhammad Amin, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Naveed, Muhammad Rashid, Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Shehbaz and Muhammad Ali.
All nine young men married their cousins in a single ceremony, choosing to celebrate the occasion together instead of arranging separate, expensive weddings. The families also hosted one joint walima reception for all nine couples on the same day.
Grooms refuse dowry
One of the most appreciated aspects of the ceremony was the decision by all nine grooms to refuse dowry.
The young men collectively decided not to place any financial burden on the brides’ families, setting an example at a time when wedding expenses and dowry demands often delay marriages.
Their decision was widely praised as a positive step toward reducing social pressure on families.
Family members said the purpose of the ceremony was not to create a record, but to deliver an important message to society. They said weddings can be held with simplicity, dignity and mutual respect, without unnecessary spending or financial demands.
According to the family, such examples can help ensure that no daughter is left waiting for marriage because of financial constraints.
Social media praise
The mass wedding ceremony quickly went viral on social media after videos and pictures from the event were shared online. Many users praised the nine grooms as “heroes” for refusing dowry and promoting a culture of simple weddings.
Observers described the ceremony as a “golden example” for other families, saying it could inspire a wider movement toward affordable and dowry-free marriages.
