Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the portal for the 'Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar Scheme', a major initiative aimed at giving agricultural land to landless farmers.
The programme promises land, financial support and on-ground guidance, marking one of the province’s biggest rural livelihood schemes in recent years.
Maryam inaugurated the portal of the scheme, officially opening a project under which agricultural land worth about Rs160 billion will be provided to landless farmers. Officials say it is designed to create livelihoods through farming while expanding agricultural use of state-identified land.
Under the programme, 13,812 agricultural lots have been allocated in different districts of Punjab, where 88,780 families are expected to benefit.
In Cholistan, the scheme is even larger in scale, with 16,685 lots expected to benefit 101,111 families. Taken together, the initiative is aimed at improving access to farmland for well over one lakh families.
Land worth Rs2.5m to Rs4m to be given
Each successful applicant will receive agricultural land worth Rs2.5 million to Rs4 million for cultivation under the scheme.
In addition, the government will provide a one-time resettlement grant ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs250,000 per acre. This support is meant to help farmers settle on the land and begin cultivation more effectively.
The Punjab government says a total of more than 124,000 acres of agricultural land will be provided under the scheme for a period of 10 years.

In one official briefing, the total was described as 124,124.374 acres. Officials said the land was identified on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with special attention to water availability and soil fertility.
They added that 43,938 areas in Punjab and 83,425 areas in Cholistan were identified for the programme while keeping irrigation and fertility factors in view.
Land only for agriculture
The land allotted under the scheme will be used only for agricultural purposes. Permanent construction on the allotted land will not be allowed.
Officials said every farmer will be free to cultivate the crop of his choice under the scheme. The aim is to support farming activity without restricting growers to a single crop pattern.
Online applications open from May 2 to 18
Eligible applicants can apply online at akarpunjabgovt.pk from May 2 to 18.
The government has also announced an appeal window. Candidates for the 'Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar Scheme' will be able to appeal to the deputy commissioner from June 1 to 8.
The final list of selected candidates will be released on June 19, while the distribution of land will begin from June 30.
If there is more than one eligible candidate for a lot, the land will be allotted through a draw. Officials said the successful candidates will then receive the land for 10 years, ensuring a structured and transparent allocation process.
The government has said that each lot will have an agriculture officer attached to it. An agricultural intern will also be assigned with every lot under the scheme.
To ensure proper cultivation and oversight, a committee comprising the assistant commissioner and officers of the Agriculture Department will visit twice a year to review farming activity.
Senior officials brief on rollout
A Senior Member of the Board of Revenue gave a detailed briefing about the 'Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar Scheme', outlining how the land had been identified and how the allocation system would work.
The structure of the scheme shows that the government is combining land access with financial aid, technical supervision and regular field monitoring to improve its chances of success.
