The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked four websites involved in the online sale of unregistered and smuggled medicines.
According to details that emerged on Wednesday, the action was taken following identification of the websites by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap). A formal letter had been sent to the PTA, drawing attention to the platforms engaged in the unlawful trade.
Sources said the PTA has also contacted relevant platforms to secure the closure of associated social media pages after the identification by Drap, adding that further action will be taken against any websites and social media pages pointed out by the authority.
Efforts are also under way to curb the promotion and online sale of unregistered and prohibited medicines on social media platforms.
