A life jacket belonging to a survivor of the RMS Titanic has been sold at a record price in the United Kingdom.
According to a British auction house, the rare life jacket fetched $904,500 (over Rs 250 million), far exceeding its initial estimate of $339,000 to $474,000.
The life jacket belonged to passenger Laura Mabel, who was traveling in a first-class cabin. She survived the disaster by escaping on Lifeboat No. 1. The jacket also bears the signatures of Laura Mabel and other survivors, adding to its historical significance.
The Titanic famously sank in April 1912 during its maiden voyage from the UK to the United States after striking an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean. More than 1,500 people lost their lives in the tragedy, while around 700 were rescued.
