Police in Westlake, Ohio, were left concerned after a 91-year-old woman failed to respond to a scheduled check-in call as part of the city’s “Confirm OK” volunteer safety program on April 9.
According to the Westlake Police Department, the woman had previously registered in the program, which requires participants to confirm their well-being through regular calls. When she did not respond, officers attempted to contact her family, including her daughter, who also reported being unable to reach her.
Authorities were then dispatched to her home. Although her car was found in the garage, repeated doorbell rings went unanswered, raising further concern.
However, upon entering the residence, police discovered that the woman was safe and in her bedroom playing a video game.
The elderly woman later explained that she was focused on beating her high score in the game “Bubble Pop” and had not heard the phone calls or doorbell.
Officials confirmed she was in good health, turning what began as a worrying situation into a lighthearted and harmless misunderstanding.
