The government has announced a significant reduction in kerosene and light diesel prices, offering relief to consumers. However, key petroleum levies and carbon charges have been kept unchanged.
The price of kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs17.33 per liter. The new price now stands at Rs450.15, down from the previous Rs467.48 per liter.
Similarly, light diesel oil has seen a major cut of Rs25.31 per liter. The price has been reduced from Rs395.3 to Rs369.72 per liter, providing additional relief, particularly for rural and agricultural users.
Petroleum levies remain unchanged
Despite the price reductions, the government has decided to maintain existing petroleum levies across key fuel categories. The levy rate on petrol remains unchanged at Rs80.61 per liter, while the carbon levy on petrol continues at Rs2.50 per liter.
The carbon levy rate on high-speed diesel has also been maintained at Rs2.50 per liter.

Meanwhile, the levy on kerosene remains unchanged at Rs20.36 per liter, and the government has kept the levy on light diesel oil steady at Rs15.84 per liter.
Balancing relief with revenue
The latest decision reflects the government’s attempt to balance consumer relief with revenue generation. While reductions in kerosene and light diesel prices will ease financial pressure on households and businesses, maintaining levies ensures continued fiscal stability.

The move is expected to particularly benefit lower-income groups who rely on kerosene, as well as sectors dependent on light diesel.
