Property buyers and sellers in rural Punjab have received major relief as the government reduces stamp duty rates. The move is aimed at boosting investment and simplifying property transactions across the province.
Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has signed the Stamp Duty Amendment Ordinance 2026, introducing key changes to the property sector in Punjab. The ordinance formally revises stamp duty rates, bringing uniformity across urban and rural areas.
Under the new law, the rate of stamp duty has been set at 1% for both urban and rural regions. Previously, stamp duty stood at 1% in urban areas, while rural areas faced a significantly higher rate of 3%.
The reduction is expected to ease the financial burden on buyers and encourage more transactions in rural markets.
Boost investment, simplify rules
According to the governor, the primary goal of the initiative is to simplify property regulations and make the sector more accessible. He noted that the revised policy is particularly designed to attract overseas Pakistanis to invest in the property market.
Officials believe the reduction in stamp duty will significantly increase buying and selling activity in rural areas. By lowering costs and removing disparities, the government aims to unlock the potential of underdeveloped property markets across Punjab.
The ordinance is seen as part of broader efforts to stimulate economic activity through real estate. With simplified procedures and reduced costs, the government expects improved investor confidence and greater participation in the property sector.
