The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for several regions of Sindh and parts of south Punjab, warning of extreme temperatures starting April 11.
Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures as the intensity of heat is expected to rise sharply.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, multiple areas across Sindh are likely to experience severe heat in the coming days. After April 11, temperatures are expected to gradually increase, with fears of a strong heatwave gripping the province.
Night temperatures are likely to remain 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal, while daytime temperatures may rise by 5 to 7 degrees above average levels.
Most affected districts identified
Several districts in Sindh are expected to be severely impacted by the heatwave, including Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana and surrounding areas.
Other regions likely to face extreme temperatures include Jamshoro, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, Umer Kot and Kashmore.
The NDMA has also warned that heat intensity will increase in parts of Balochistan. Areas such as Jhal Magsi, Usta Muhammad and Dera Murad Jamali are expected to experience rising temperatures during this period.
South Punjab districts also on alert
A heatwave alert has also been issued for Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Authorities have urged residents in these districts to remain cautious as temperatures continue to climb.
The NDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during daytime, when temperatures are expected to peak. People have also been urged to ensure increased water intake to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
Risk of heat-related health issues
With temperatures climbing significantly above normal levels, the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke is expected to increase.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and stress the importance of precautionary measures to stay safe during the extreme weather conditions.
