The Punjab government has clarified that fuel subsidies will not be available to all motorcycle owners. Information Minister Azma Bukhari said new regulations are being developed to ensure targeted relief.
The Punjab minister announced that petroleum product subsidies will not be provided to every motorcycle owner. She explained that the government is formulating rules for those who own more than one motorcycle and car owners, indicating a move toward targeted subsidy distribution.
The minister said that farmers will receive fuel subsidies through the Kisan Card system. She urged farmers who have not yet registered to immediately obtain their Kisan Cards to benefit from the scheme.
Govt addressing pulse supply issues
Azma Bukhari acknowledged that there are some issues due to delays in the import of pulses from abroad. She assured that the government is actively working to resolve these problems.
The minister added that the arrival of the new chickpea crop is expected soon, which will help improve the situation.
The information minister warned that illegal profiteering must be avoided, stressing that strict action will be taken otherwise. She cautioned that institutions, including Paraforce, will take action against those involved in exploiting the situation.
Public urged to support govt efforts
Azma emphasized that the government cannot handle the situation alone and called on the public to cooperate. She noted that some elements are trying to frame the issue around individual motorcycle owners, but broader responsibility lies with all stakeholders.
The minister also highlighted that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is closely monitoring the situation regarding food items. Efforts are underway to ensure stability in essential commodities despite current challenges.
The government’s strategy reflects a shift toward targeted subsidies, focusing on vulnerable groups such as farmers while ensuring accountability in distribution.
