A senior judicial officer in Karachi has received a serious death threat, with a bullet and warning note recovered from inside his chamber, prompting a police investigation.
Authorities say the threat was issued by unknown individuals, raising concerns about judicial security.
According to police, District and Sessions Judge Sohail Jabbar Malik, who also serves as chairman of the Appellate Council Local Government, received a death threat from unidentified persons. A threatening envelope along with a 9mm bullet was discovered inside the judge’s chamber.
The letter reportedly contained a clear warning to kill the judge, alarming authorities and court officials.
Police have confirmed that a case has been registered at Aram Bagh police station regarding the threatening letter. Investigators have launched a probe to identify those responsible for sending the envelope and issuing the threat.
Officials say efforts are underway to trace the origin of the letter and assess potential risks.
Malik has previously served as a judge in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). During his tenure, he sentenced operatives of banned organizations to death, which may be a possible motive behind the threat, though authorities have not confirmed this.
Security concerns rise
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of judges handling sensitive cases, particularly those linked to terrorism and banned outfits.
Authorities are expected to review security arrangements as the investigation continues.
