A deadly suicide attack near Domail police station claimed the lives of five civilians, including women and a child, despite security forces successfully foiling the main assault. The blast left several others seriously injured and caused widespread devastation.
According to the Bannu regional police officer (RPO), the suicide bomber targeted the civilian population outside the Domail police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district.
The explosion occurred close to the police facility, severely affecting nearby residents and infrastructure. Authorities described the attack as a cowardly act by terrorists.
At least five people were martyred in the blast, including three women and a child. Security sources confirmed that innocent civilians bore the brunt of the attack. Among the victims were Naqeebullah, his wife, his son Tufail Subhan, and his daughter. Another victim, Sadaf Raja, also lost her life in the tragic incident.
Four people, including women, were seriously injured in the attack and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals. Medical teams are providing urgent treatment to the injured, while authorities continue to monitor their condition.
Attack on police station successfully foiled
Despite the devastation, officials confirmed that the primary target — the Domail police station — remained secure due to effective security arrangements.
The RPO stated that the attack on the police station was foiled, crediting strong security measures for preventing further damage.
Rescue teams and local residents quickly began clearing debris and assisting victims after the explosion. Relief activities are ongoing in the affected area. Security forces have cordoned off the site and launched a search and clearance operation to ensure no further threats remain.
Security sources stated that such elements aim to push the peace-loving people of Bannu towards instability and terrorism. However, they emphasized that the elimination of terrorists is certain.
Operations under the National Action Plan will continue until the last terrorist is eradicated, officials added.
President and PM condemn attack
President Asif Ali Zardari visited Domail Police Station and expressed deep regret over the loss of lives. He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and the speedy recovery of the injured.
The president reaffirmed that eliminating terrorism, especially that sponsored by foreign powers, remains a top national priority. He also stressed that Pakistan’s resolve to eradicate terrorism is unwavering.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressing sorrow over the loss of precious lives. He also prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
The prime minister reiterated the government’s commitment to completely eliminate all forms of terrorism from the country.
