The Met Department has issued a flash flood alert as a new spell of westerly winds is set to enter Pakistan. Heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected across multiple regions from April 1 to 4.
According to the Met Department, a fresh system of westerly winds will enter the country via Balochistan. This weather system is expected to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and changing weather patterns across Pakistan.
Authorities have warned of a serious risk of flash flooding, particularly in areas surrounding the Kabul River from April 2 to 4. The Met Office said water flow and levels in the Kabul River may rise abnormally during this period.
Flash flooding is also likely in Kohat, Kurram, and Gomal regions.
Southern Punjab and mountainous areas
Flooding is expected in local drains of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, as well as in parts of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The PDMA Punjab has issued a specific alert for hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, warning of heavy rains in these areas and Koh-e-Suleman.
Authorities fear that rivers and streams could overflow due to continuous rainfall between April 2 and 4.

Alerts have been issued to the commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan and deputy commissioners across affected areas. PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia has directed all departments and rescue agencies to remain fully prepared to handle emergency situations.
Citizens living near rivers, drains, and watercourses have been advised to stay cautious.
Rain forecast for Punjab
Meteorological Department Deputy Director Atif Irshad said that the weather in Punjab will remain pleasant during the first week of April. However, rain with thunder and lightning is expected in various districts, including Lahore, from April 1 to 4.
Karachi is also expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The system is likely to become active in the city on Thursday and may persist until April 4.
Heavy rain is expected in some parts of Karachi, while hailstorms are also possible during the spell.
Rain, hail expected in rural Sindh
Various districts of rural Sindh are also forecast to receive rain with thunderstorms. The Met Department warned that hailstorms may occur in rural Sindh, including Karachi, during this weather system.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary exposure to risky areas during heavy rain. With multiple regions under threat of flooding and severe weather, preparedness remains critical in the coming days.
