Pakistan has made major progress in national cyber security by establishing a centralized system for sharing threat intelligence.
The new framework is designed to detect and respond to cyber threats in real time, boosting national digital defense. A comprehensive system for integrating and exchanging cyber threat intelligence at the national level has been successfully set up.
This development marks a significant step toward building a coordinated and proactive cyber security infrastructure across the country.
National CERT system operational
The National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) system has been established using a locally operated Malware Information Sharing Platform (MISP). This system serves as the backbone of Pakistan’s new cyber defense strategy, enabling efficient data sharing and threat monitoring.
The National CERT system has been linked with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Cyber Division of the Pakistan Army. This integration allows seamless information exchange between the three institutions, ensuring a unified and coordinated national cyber defense mechanism.
Strengthening cyber sovereignty
According to official documents, the locally managed MISP system enhances Pakistan’s cyber sovereignty by reducing reliance on external intelligence sources.
This shift is expected to improve the country’s preparedness against modern cyber threats. Centralized threat intelligence has made it possible to identify cyber threats in a timely manner.
Authorities will now be able to detect and respond to attacks targeting critical national infrastructure, government systems, and telecom networks more effectively.
The threat intelligence sharing system is designed to strengthen coordination between institutions. It enables joint intelligence operations, proactive threat hunting, and early prevention measures to stop cyber attacks before they spread.
Limiting impact of cyber attacks
With rapid identification and real-time response capabilities, the system will help limit the spread and impact of cyber threats. Officials say this will significantly enhance Pakistan’s overall cyber resilience.
The initiative reflects Pakistan’s growing focus on securing its digital ecosystem amid evolving cyber risks. By integrating intelligence and improving coordination, the country aims to build a more robust and self-reliant cyber defense framework.
