Following a recent increase in the petroleum levy on high-octane fuel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an immediate ban on its use in all government vehicles.
The directive applies to federal ministries, divisions, departments, authorities, and subordinate institutions, aiming to ensure responsible and efficient use of national resources and reduce unnecessary expenditures.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that any unavoidable use of high-octane fuel in official vehicles must be paid for personally by the user. Violations of the ban will lead to strict action.
The Petroleum Division, under the prime minister’s instructions, raised the levy on high-octane fuel by Rs200 per liter, increasing it from 105.35 to 305.37 rupees per liter. This has pushed the price of high-octane fuel to Rs534 per liter, while the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel remains unchanged.
The move is part of ongoing austerity measures in response to the challenging global economic situation.
