The Punjab government has decided to expand the scope of the Punjab Forensic Science Authority across the province.
According to details that emerged on Wednesday said the chief minister had directed the establishment of units in every district under a standardised and specified design.
Work is already under way for the setting up of crime scene units in Mianwali, Toba Tek Singh and Rahim Yar Khan as part of a wider network across Punjab.
In line with the chief minister’s directives, units would also be established without delay at the headquarters of the remaining 26 districts.
Approval has been granted to include the establishment of new units in the next financial year’s Annual Development Programme.
The provincial government has directed the Home Department to identify state land in all districts for the units.
The Punjab Forensic Science Authority director general has been instructed to submit a detailed plan for the remaining districts to the Planning and Development Department.
Officials said the crime scene units would modernise the system of evidence collection across Punjab.
