The Academy has addressed a rude encounter involving singer and actress Teyana Taylor at this year’s Oscars, which drew widespread attention after a video of the incident went viral.
The clip showed Taylor visibly upset, confronting a security guard after he reportedly pushed her and another woman near the end of the ceremony. She is heard saying, “You’re a man putting your hands on a female, you’re very rude,” as bystanders attempted to calm the situation.
In a statement, the Academy expressed regret that Taylor had to endure the incident, emphasizing that while the guard was employed by an external security company, the organization still bears responsibility for ensuring all guests feel safe and respected.
“This kind of behavior is not acceptable, and we are taking steps to ensure it does not happen again,” the statement read. The Academy also thanked Taylor for handling the situation with composure.
The security company involved acknowledged the area was crowded and that their team was trying to maintain order, admitting that some contact occurred and expressing regret over the outcome.
Taylor later confirmed she is fine but reiterated that she does not tolerate any form of disrespect.
