WhatsApp is developing a new logout feature for Android that could make it easier for users to sign out of the app without deleting their accounts or losing chat data.
The feature was recently spotted in the latest beta version of the app and is designed to simplify a process that is currently inconvenient for many users.
At present, WhatsApp does not provide a dedicated logout option on smartphones. Users who want to stop using the app on a device often have to uninstall it, clear app data, or remove their account entirely - steps that can be confusing and time-consuming.
With the upcoming update, users will be able to log out while keeping their chats, media, and account intact. This means they can temporarily sign out and later log back in without losing any data.
The feature is also expected to make switching between accounts more seamless, particularly for people who use multiple phone numbers for personal and professional communication. Instead of relying on workarounds, users will be able to move between accounts more easily.
Reports from beta testers suggest the logout option will include clear instructions explaining what happens to chats and data during the process, helping reduce uncertainty and improve user experience.
The feature is still in testing and there is no official timeline for a global rollout. However, its development highlights WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to improve account management and usability across devices.
