Mobile users in Pakistan may soon experience 5G services, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is expected to issue 5G licenses to telecom operators next week, potentially paving the way for the service to launch before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Following the recent 5G spectrum auction, PTA has accelerated preparations for the issuance of licenses. Officials say the licenses have already been prepared, allowing telecom companies to move quickly toward launching the next-generation mobile service.
The regulator has directed telecom operators to fulfill all legal requirements before receiving the licenses. Companies must submit a $15 million bank guarantee as part of the licensing conditions. According to officials, one company has already submitted the guarantee, while the remaining two are expected to do so soon.
PTA is also considering issuing licenses to all three companies simultaneously, as operators prepare for a rapid rollout of 5G services across the country.
