The Lahore High Court has set aside a sessions court decision to register a case against former Pakistan captain Babar Azam over allegations of harassment by a woman.
According to details, Justice Asjad Javed Ghural heard the petition filed by Babar Azam. The court accepted the cricketer’s plea against the sessions court order directing registration of a case.
Barrister Haris Azmat presented arguments on behalf of Babar Azam. Lawyers for the federal government, the Punjab government and the complainant woman, Hamiza Mukhtar, also appeared before the court.
Counsel for Babar Azam said the petitioner had submitted a baseless application in 2018 as well. He said the woman levelled a false allegation of harassment against the cricketer and argued that the sessions court order for registration of the case did not meet legal requirements.
Lawyer for Hamiza Mukhtar opposed the cricketer’s petition. The sessions court had ordered registration of a case against Babar Azam in 2021 on the woman’s application.
The Lahore High Court has now declared the sessions court decision to register the case null and void.
