Pakistan has activated a locally developed automated web monitoring system to counter the rising threat of cyber attacks targeting government websites.
The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) has begun real-time monitoring of more than 1,500 government websites and applications across the country.
The National CERT introduced the automated monitoring system as cyber threats against Pakistan’s government websites continue to increase.
The system has been designed to detect cyber attacks on websites in real time and instantly notify relevant authorities when a potential threat is identified.
Real-time alerts for govt agencies
According to officials, the web monitoring platform automatically issues alerts to relevant institutions as soon as a cyber threat emerges.
This real-time warning system is intended to help authorities respond quickly to cyber incidents and protect sensitive government digital infrastructure.
The automated platform is currently conducting continuous cyber monitoring of 1,527 government and important websites in Pakistan.
These include websites belonging to federal and provincial governments, as well as critical online platforms across different sectors.
Federal, provincial websites under watch
The monitoring system covers a wide range of government websites across the country.
-
407 websites of the federal government are being monitored.
-
282 websites of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government are included in the system.
-
299 websites of the Punjab government are under surveillance.
Sindh, Balochistan, other regions included
The cyber monitoring initiative also includes other provincial and regional government platforms.
-
174 websites of the Sindh government are being monitored.
-
188 websites belonging to the Balochistan government are included in the system.
-
Websites operated by the Gilgit-Baltistan government are also under monitoring.
-
133 websites from Azad Kashmir are part of the monitoring network.
Private, banking sector websites also monitored
In addition to government platforms, the system is also tracking websites in the private and financial sectors.
Authorities confirmed that 119 private sector websites and 44 banking sector websites are also being monitored for potential cyber threats.
Officials say the activation of the monitoring platform is part of broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s cybersecurity framework.
By identifying threats quickly and issuing automatic alerts, the system is expected to improve the country’s ability to respond to cyber attacks and protect critical digital services.
