A seven-day extension in Section 144 has been enforced across Punjab.
According to the Punjab Home Department, the measure has been taken due to possible threats of terrorism and concerns relating to public order. The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification imposing a ban on gatherings, rallies and protests. The extension in Section 144 will remain in force until March 14.
Public gatherings at public places without prior permission will remain prohibited across the province.
However, law enforcement personnel on duty will remain exempt from the restriction. Gatherings relating to weddings, funerals and burial rites will not fall under the ban.
Meetings at government and semi-government offices, as well as court proceedings, will also remain exempt.
District administrations and police across Punjab have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the restriction.
The Punjab Home Department said reports indicate that sensitive gatherings may become targets of terrorism and sectarian violence.
Display and use of all kinds of weapons at public places remain completely prohibited across Punjab.
Authorities said all possible steps will remain in place to maintain law and order and safeguard public life and property.
