Authorities have imposed a three-day curfew in Gilgit and Skardu following a tense law and order situation triggered by protests after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
A formal notification has also been issued for the deployment of the Pakistan Army in both cities to maintain order.
Today marks the first day of the curfew in Skardu and Gilgit, with the Pakistan Army taking control of key areas in the cities.
According to the official schedule, the curfew will be relaxed daily from 12 noon to 4pm. During these four hours, residents are allowed to travel and purchase essential items and meet other necessities of life.
Outside the relaxation window, strict movement restrictions remain in place.
Mobile networks shut down across GB
Authorities have also suspended mobile network services across Gilgit-Baltistan to prevent the spread of unrest. The communication blackout has added to the restrictions already in effect, limiting both movement and connectivity in the region.
In Gilgit city, a civil curfew is being enforced. All commercial centers have been closed, traffic is absent from the roads, and both government and private offices remained shut.
Police personnel are actively patrolling the streets and sending anyone found outside back to their homes.
Protests after Khamenei assassination
The curfew was imposed following protests and heightened tensions after the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei, which sparked unrest in parts of the region.
Officials say the measures are aimed at restoring calm and preventing further escalation. Security forces remain on high alert as authorities monitor the situation closely over the three-day period.
