Hacking WhatsApp accounts in Pakistan is set to become significantly harder. After successful negotiations between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Meta, a new security feature will soon be introduced exclusively for WhatsApp users in Pakistan.
The move is being described as a major step toward curbing the growing menace of WhatsApp hacking across the country.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Meta have successfully concluded talks aimed at stopping WhatsApp hacking in Pakistan.
According to officials, Meta has developed an effective and sustainable solution to address the issue, which has become a serious concern for users nationwide. The new security feature will be officially announced soon, the PTA chairman confirmed.
Double security system
Under the new mechanism, a double security system will be implemented when transferring a WhatsApp account to a new mobile device.
In addition to the One-Time Password (OTP), users will now be required to set and enter a separate password to activate WhatsApp on a new phone.
Even if hackers manage to obtain the OTP, they will not be able to activate the account without entering the second password.
How new feature will work
When a user attempts to log into WhatsApp on another device, a password notification will appear after the OTP verification step.
The account will only be activated once the second password is entered on the new mobile phone.
This added authentication layer is designed to ensure that simply sharing an OTP will no longer compromise an entire WhatsApp account.
Pakistan to get feature first
Speaking to Samaa TV, the PTA chairman said WhatsApp hacking has become a serious problem in Pakistan. He noted that many users lose access to their accounts simply by sharing an OTP, which then allows hackers to take full control of their profiles.
The upcoming security feature aims to eliminate this vulnerability and restore user confidence.
In a significant development, the PTA chairman confirmed that WhatsApp’s new security feature will be launched first in Pakistan. The official announcement is expected soon, marking an important milestone in digital security and online safety for Pakistani users.
