Tech giant Meta has signed a $100 billion agreement with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to purchase AI chips, while also acquiring a 10 percent stake in the semiconductor firm.
The deal is one of the latest in a series of major chip supply agreements, highlighting the scale of investments technology companies are making to gain an edge in the competitive AI industry.
The agreement echoes a previous deal between AMD and OpenAI, in which OpenAI acquired shares in AMD to support its development of ChatGPT.
Under the new arrangement, Meta will purchase AMD’s latest MI450 chips to enhance the performance and efficiency of its data centers, further strengthening its AI infrastructure and computing capabilities.
This investment underscores Meta’s commitment to staying at the forefront of AI technology and reflects the growing importance of specialized chips in powering next-generation AI applications.
