A girl who jumped from a building at a private university in Lahore has regained consciousness and spoken to her family, doctors confirmed, though her condition remains critical as she continues treatment at Lahore General Hospital.
The injured student was shifted to Lahore General Hospital, where she has been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Doctors say she is now breathing on her own after being removed from the ventilator.
Despite regaining consciousness, medical officials cautioned that her condition remains critical and requires close monitoring.
Head of the medical board Prof. Dr. Jawdat Saleem told Samaa TV that the student has spoken to her parents and medical staff since regaining consciousness. He added that the family has not recalled any prior incident indicating suicide attempts or mental stress.
According to Dr. Saleem, the patient’s overall condition is currently satisfactory and stable, but treatment will continue in the ICU as a precaution.
Ventilator removed, spinal surgery under review
Doctors confirmed that the student has been successfully removed from the ventilator and is breathing independently. A decision regarding spinal surgery will be re-evaluated tomorrow based on her medical progress.
Dr. Saleem said continuous assessments are being carried out to determine the next course of treatment.
A team of psychologists has started interviewing the student to better understand her mental and emotional state. The psychological evaluation will continue, with another detailed session scheduled for tomorrow.
Hospital officials emphasized that mental health support is being treated as a key part of the recovery process.
Punjab Women Protection Authority steps in
The chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, Hina Pervaiz Butt, visited Lahore General Hospital, where she met the student and her family.
She directed doctors to utilize all available medical resources for the student’s treatment and instructed hospital authorities to ensure strict monitoring at every stage.
Hina said the student will be provided with the best possible medical, psychological, and rehabilitation facilities. She added that all facts related to the incident -- before and after -- will be brought to light strictly in accordance with the law.
She also stressed that the dignity and privacy of the affected student and her family must be fully protected during the investigation.
Concluding her visit, Hina Pervaiz urged students and women facing mental pressure not to remain silent and to seek immediate help. She said timely support can prevent tragic incidents and save lives.
