The duration of Section 144 has been extended in Rawalpindi and Quetta.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, the Balochistan government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 in Quetta for one month in view of the law and order situation, while the district administration has extended the imposition of Section 144 in Rawalpindi by a further seven days.
According to a notification issued by the Balochistan Home Department, Section 144 prohibits the display and use of weapons, motorcycle pillion riding except for women and children, the use of tinted windows on vehicles, the movement of unregistered motorcycles, gatherings of five or more persons, processions or rallies, and the covering of faces with mufflers or masks in public places.
The notification said that the restrictions will remain in force until January 31. In case of violations, action will be taken under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other relevant laws.
Meanwhile, the duration of Section 144 in Rawalpindi has been extended by another seven days. According to the notification issued by the district administration, Section 144 will remain in force until 7 January. During this period, all public meetings, processions, rallies and gatherings are banned, while the use of loudspeakers and the display of weapons are also prohibited.
