The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new class licensing framework to provide internet services at the district level, a move aimed at strengthening broadband connectivity nationwide.
PTA has formally invited online applications for the newly introduced district-level internet service class license. The initiative is designed to make it easier for service providers to enter local markets and expand internet coverage.
License duration and validity
According to the authority’s announcement, the class license will be issued for a period of 10 years. This long-term validity is intended to encourage sustained investment in broadband infrastructure at the district level.
Applicants will be required to pay a one-time initial fee of Rs300,000 before the license becomes effective. In addition, the annual license fee for the first year will be Rs100,000, as specified by PTA.
Annual fee increase and payment terms
PTA stated that the annual license fee for subsequent years will be paid in advance. The fee will increase by 10% every year, providing a predictable cost structure for license holders.
According to PTA, the core objective of the class license is to improve broadband facilities across the country. Providing internet services at the district level is expected to promote local business opportunities, enhance digital access, and support economic growth in underserved areas.
