The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainfall in many parts of the country.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, in Lahore, the weather is once again heading towards a change. The PMD said that the rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in the city from December 31 to January 1.
Lahore has currently ranked sixth among the world’s most polluted cities, with an Air Quality Index of 179. Experts said the expected rainfall could bring a noticeable reduction in air pollution and smog.
The PMD said Karachi is likely to receive its first winter rain on December 30. A western weather system may affect the city between Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a further drop in temperature.
In Balochistan, rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, along with snowfall, are expected from December 29 to January 1. These conditions are likely to cause a fall in temperatures.
The PMD said that the intermittent rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected between December 30 and January 1 in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Kohat. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in the upper areas.
Meanwhile, in the upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, water sources have frozen due to severe cold. The PMD has forecast rain and light snowfall in the region.
