A local court in Islamabad has stayed the arrest of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in five cases, including those related to the May 9 incidents, granting them interim relief until January 27.
The Islamabad District and Sessions Court ordered that the arrest of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi be stayed in all five related cases until the next hearing.
The court also extended their pre-arrest bail, providing temporary legal protection as their bail applications remain pending. The case was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka.
During the proceedings, arguments on the bail applications could not be presented due to the unavailability of the PTI founder, leading the court to adjourn the matter.
Court directs appearance in next hearing
The court directed the PTI founder to ensure his appearance at the next hearing, either in person or through a video link. Following this direction, the hearing on the bail applications was formally adjourned until January 27.
Advocate Shamsa Kayani appeared before the court on behalf of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi. She sought an extension in proceedings, citing the inability to argue the case without her client’s presence.
Nature of cases
The PTI founder is facing multiple cases, including those linked to the May 9 violence, as well as allegations of attempted murder, submission of fake receipts, and other related charges.
A separate case has been registered against Bushra Bibi, accusing her of submitting fake receipts. With interim relief in place, both the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi are required to comply with the court’s directions ahead of the next hearing.
