The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have decided to purchase additional modern weapons to counter terrorism.
Police officials said 50 Beretta sniper rifles and 100 sniper rifles are to be procured. A total of 1,250 modern automatic weapons under the “TWS” system will be purchased. Rails will be acquired to upgrade 3,000 small weapons and 3,250 large weapons.
The procurement plan includes 430 thermal binoculars. A total of 330 thermal TI cameras will be provided. Police officials said 73 surveillance drones will also be purchased for the force. 14 additional anti-drone guns are to be acquired to counter aerial threats.
Four search drones will also be purchased. 20 modern bomb disposal suits will be provided for counter-terrorism operations. For search operations, 1,000 Sparta cameras are to be purchased.
Police officials said 6,000 bulletproof jackets will be procured. The plan also includes the purchase of 6,000 bulletproof helmets.
The front screens of 39 police vehicles and full bulletproofing of five double-cabin vehicles will be carried out. A total of 210 B7-level armoured vehicles and a further 1,200 operational armoured vehicles will be purchased for the police.
Side armouring and body fabrication for police vehicles are also part of the procurement plan.
